REBOL: Got Newer Version

Posted on Friday, 2007-April-06. Filed under: REBOL, Squeak |

I did not want anyone to think I had completely abandoned REBOL.  With work being slow right now, I have been spending more time trying to replace the lost income than learning to use a tool that I cannot use in my current work environment anyway.

Replacing REBOL on my Fedora Core 6 laptop, I downloaded the beta of REBOL/SDK.  Reading about the capabilities of the higher version, I am looking forward to relaunching on both REBOL and Squeak soon.

I believe that both of these tools (REBOL and Squeak) have some real usage benefits for individuals and small businesses (or departments of larger businesses), although Squeak’s toy-like interface means that for many deployments, I’d prefer to go with Cincom’s VisualWorks Smalltalk instead.

I’m desiring to explore using one or both to power department-level intranet applications some day.  Stay tuned and we’ll see how it goes.

See you soon!

UPDATE: I am currently on assignment in New Jersey, 2700+ miles away from home.  I took my WinXP laptop with me and have converted it to Linux Mint.  Look for renewed activity with both REBOL and Squeak soon.
