About Walt Hucks
There is not a lot to say about me. I work too much, always have. I have never been able to find a balance in my life. I try to take college classes whenever I can fit them into my schedule. I have a Master’s in IT (AIU Online), Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Small Business Management (California State Univ, San Bernardino), and Associate’s Degrees in Business Administration and Ornamental Horticulture (Victor Valley Community College)
Interests:
Operating Systems: Linux, FreeBSD, Red Hat / Fedora Core Linux, NetBSD, Gentoo Linux, OpenBSD, Ubuntu / Kubuntu / Xubuntu Linux, DragonflyBSD, Mandriva Linux, Syllable, Mepis Linux, ReactOS, Debian GNU/Linux … Oh, did I mention that I like almost any GNU/Linux that I have tried?
with some continuing interest in Windows (2000, XP, Vista), mostly from the standpoint of administering servers and networks, especially networks with Linux & BSD servers and clients as well as Windows;
Software: Apache, Tomcat, Jetty, Enhydra, JoNaS, Cocoon, Forrest, Derby, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Firebird, HSQLDB, McKoi, JBoss, Postfix, Exim, Courier, JavaEmailServer, VNC, NX, almost anything on Apache.org, many things on SourceForge.net, some things on Savannah (GNU.org or nongnu.org);
Languages: XHTML 1.0 and 1.1, CSS, JavaScript, Java, Python, Ruby, REXX, Perl, REBOL, C, Pascal, C++, Gambas (a GUI BASIC for Linux), XBasic (a GUI BASIC for Windows and Linux, but the stagnation of the language is making me lose interest quickly), KiXtart, some VBScript (for Windows administration)
The God and Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, as revealed in the Bible (NLT, NIV, NCV, CEV, NKJB are nice because they speak modern English)
the acquisition of knowledge and learning—I have an almost insatiable thirst for it—including scientific and mathematical knowledge and of course anything related to computers… I used to have dreams about having and using a home computer, back in the days when computers were wall-sized boxes full of blinking lights
Of course there is much more, but I’m already boring you.
