mrmrjustin says:
<blockquote>Steve is not coming back.
I am like him. I don’t think there is any future with rebol. It’s dead to me. No point in continuing using a language with no future. It never had .</blockquote>

<strong>Reply:</strong> No future? That's a rather harsh assessment. I would say that its viability for future projects depends on what segment you're in. If you're selling custom products to large or middle-sized companies (or gov't agencies), you're probably right. The choice of tools at such companies is guided more by inertia and thick policy books than by any intelligence and intentional direction.

One look at a WPF book in Barnes and Noble makes it clear that WPF isn't for someone who doesn't have <em>lots of time</em> to fiddle around. Complexity atop complexity. Seems even more complex than Java. No thanks.

I would expect that Rebol as a language will flourish in certain niches, particularly outside of the oversight of corporate PHBs and architecture astronauts. And yet, being so closely tied to the company Rebol Technologies and founder/language creator Carl Sassenrath, the success or failure of that company will be mirrored in the success or failure of the language. I really wish that RT's business model allowed them to release a full language spec and allow multiple independent implementations thereof (possibly for a fee), simply because it would help make using Rebol a much less risky choice for many projects.

I think Rebol fulfills a role similar to the early days of Perl--crafting small, task-specific tools--except that when you come back in three months, you don't have to rewrite from scratch to understand what it does.

[...] This was originally based on something I found on PCC Services. The original versions have been replaced with Kixforms gui versions. I typically make an autostart CD instead of working across a network. (This works when you're dealing with a home or small business that does not have dozens of computers. I would not attempt this in a corporate network.) I wrote about an earlier version here. [...]

Hi,

Your script looks like what I need, but when I modified it to copy files on a server it does nothing

				;Begin of Script

Break OFF
Debug "OFF"
SetConsole ("show")

$loopdone = "false"

; Scan dir for list of PDF files
$nextfile = Dir("\\server2\folder\*.pdf")

DO

; Loop through list, checking each file for its creation date
; For each file, if there is a subdirectory with the date name (YYYY-MM-DD)
; matching the file's creation date, move the file to the directory
; Otherwise, create the directory and then move the file.
   IF $nextfile ""

      $creationdate = GetFileTime($nextfile, 0, 2)

      $dirname = TRIM(JOIN(SPLIT(SUBSTR($creationdate, 1, 10), '/'), '-'))
; This line took some searching to find, as the docs don't give
; enough info. Forums are a good info source for this language
      $outputfile = $dirname + "\" + $nextfile

      IF EXIST ('\\server\folder' + $dirname)

         ? "Directory " + $dirname + " exists."
         Copy $nextfile $outputfile

      ELSE

         ? "Directory " + $dirname + " does not exist. Creating now."
         MD "\\server\folder" + "\" $dirname
         Copy $nextfile $outputfile

      ENDIF

   ENDIF

   $nextfile = DIR()

   IF $nextfile = ""

      $loopdone = "true"
      ? "No more PDF files"

   ELSE

      ? $nextfile + ':'

In fact, it's even shorter than that :

VID (REBOL's graphical dialect) is smart enough to figure out by itself the "load read/binary" part ;-)
